UPAA recently celebrated India’s 70th Independence Day in Melbourne. Core members and their families and friends assembled together at the home of Umesh and Shipra and joined the festivities. The program was started with singing of India’s national anthem Jan Gana  Mana composed by Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore. For the benefit of the children who may not be fully cognisant of the importance of the day, an impromptu speech was given highlighting the freedom struggle and martyrdom of so many Indians. Not to mention, delicious food was on offer. Later, the singers in everybody came out and melodious songs raning from patriotic to old Bollywood numbers were sung by all and enjoyed. It was the first attempt by UPAA to celebrate a historic day in Melbourne and was enjoyed by all.
