Uttar Pradesh (UP), often hailed as the cultural and spiritual heartland of India, is a state steeped in history, tradition, and timeless heritage. It is home to some of the most sacred and iconic places in Indian civilization — Ayodhya , the birthplace of Lord Rama; Mathura, the birthplace of Lord Krishna; Varanasi (Kashi), one of the world's oldest living cities and a revered center for spirituality, where landmarks like Kashi Vishwanath Temple, Sarnath, and Banaras Hindu University (BHU) continue to inspire pilgrims and scholars alike. The capital city Lucknow is renowned for its Nawabi charm, refined cuisine, and rich traditions of Urdu poetry, dance, and architecture. Other world-famous sites include the Taj Mahal in Agra, a symbol of eternal love and architectural wonder, and the ancient Buddhist site of Sarnath.
Uttar Pradesh has produced some of India's most influential figures — from freedom fighters like Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, Chandrashekhar Azad and Ram Prasad Bismil, to literary giants like Munshi Premchand, poets like Jay Shankar Prasad, Mahadevi Verma & Harivansh Rai Bachchan, and modern leaders and artists such as Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Amitabh Bachchan.
In Australia, the UP diaspora is a growing, vibrant community of students, professionals, entrepreneurs, and families who carry forward the values, warmth, and cultural richness of their homeland. The Uttar Pradesh Association of Australia (UPAA) serves as a platform to celebrate this heritage, support fellow UPites, and strengthen cultural ties between India and Australia — keeping the spirit of UP alive, no matter where we are.
The Uttar Pradesh Association of Australia (UPAA) is a dynamic not-for-profit organisation founded to unite and empower individuals of Uttar Pradesh origin living across Australia. Rooted in the timeless cultural and spiritual heritage of Uttar Pradesh — the land of Varanasi, Ayodhya, and Lucknow — UPAA celebrates the vibrancy of Indian traditions while embracing the values of multicultural Australia. Since its inception, UPAA has become a vital bridge between the two nations, promoting cultural exchange, educational advancement, community service, and social cohesion through inclusive programs and civic engagement initiatives. From hosting grand celebrations like Ramleela and Republic Day events to offering health clinics, youth mentorship, and elderly support, UPAA exemplifies the spirit of “service above self.”
Under the visionary leadership of its Founder and President, Dr. Santosh Yadav, UPAA has grown into a respected platform for cultural preservation, community empowerment, and cross-continental collaboration. With initiatives ranging from educational seminars and women’s leadership forums to COVID-19 relief efforts and diaspora storytelling, UPAA continues to foster unity, pride, and purpose among Indian Australians. Looking ahead, UPAA plans to establish a permanent cultural centre in Melbourne, launch a digital migration archive, and build stronger Australia–Uttar Pradesh business and wellness partnerships. More than just a community group, UPAA is a movement — a testament to the enduring values of character, heritage, and collective progress.

It is with immense pride, humility, and It is with deep pride and humility that I address you as the Founder and President of the Uttar Pradesh Association of Australia (UPAA). UPAA was born out of a shared need — to bring together the vibrant diaspora of Uttar Pradesh under one roof, celebrating our rich cultural roots while embracing the diverse spirit of Australia. What began as a community initiative has grown into a thriving, inclusive platform for cultural connection, mutual support, and social impact.
Uttar Pradesh — the heart of India — has given the world timeless values, spiritual wisdom, and a legacy of resilience. From our first event to today, UPAA has remained committed to service, unity, and progress. We host cultural festivals, national day celebrations, wellness programs, youth forums, and more — all driven by our motto: service above self.
As UPAA grows, our responsibilities deepen. Our roadmap ahead includes:
I sincerely thank our volunteers, members, partners, and well-wishers — your support makes everything possible. Special thanks to the Consulate of India in Melbourne, local leaders, and the families who trust us to lead.
To all individuals of UP origin — whether recent migrants or born here — I warmly invite you to join this journey of unity, culture, and shared dreams.
Let us grow together, contribute together, and celebrate together.
"A nation is made strong by the character of its people, not by the strength of its arms or wealth."
Let us build a legacy of character, culture, and compassion.
With warm regards and unwavering commitment,
Dr. Santosh Yadav
